Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wants to do the Red Scare all over again—this time with Chinese citizens living in the United States, after a year in which Asian-Americans have been targeted with harassment and even violence due to misplaced rage over COVID-19.

Greene went on former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon’s show on Wednesday to proclaim that if she could, she would deport Chinese citizens deemed insufficiently loyal to the United States.

“The Chinese understand one thing and that is money. If I was in charge and I had my way, I would come down on China so hard,” Greene told Bannon. “I would put tariffs back in place and they would be more strict than [former] President [Donald] Trump’s because those tariffs worked.”

“I would kick out every single Chinese in this country that is loyal to the CCP,” she added. “They would be gone. I do not care. They would be gone… you’re gone, back to China.”

It’s unclear what criteria Greene would use to prove “loyalty to the CCP,” though Bannon referred to “documents,” presumably the loyalty oaths that members of the Chinese Communist Party must pledge to become members of the party—essentially a prerequisite to become a leader in government or business.

Greene’s comments are a throwback to some of the darkest periods in American history, when the loyalties of immigrants were publicly questioned. During World War II, for example, the United States detained Japanese-Americans in concentration camps.

The past year has also been marked by harassment and violence against Asian-Americans. The group Stop AAPI Hate documented more than 6,600 reports of harassment or violence against Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders between March 2020 and March 2021.

While Greene has claimed that COVID-19 is a “Chinese-made bioweapon”—a claim which goes far beyond even the unproven “lab leak” theory —she has also argued against both vaccinations and mask mandates as a way to mitigate the damage from a virus that has already killed well over 600,000 Americans, and threatens to kill more due to the ultra-contagious Delta variant.

Earlier this week, Greene laughed off a reporter’s question about whether she felt responsibility for keeping people in Georgia safe, after the reporter noted that Greene’s assertion that obese people and those over 65 were the only ones at risk from COVID-19 was not accurate. But last Friday, a five-year-old child who lived in Greene’s district succumbed to a stroke after being hospitalized due to complications from COVID-19.

The Senate unanimously passed a bill this week that clamps down on China’s reach into U.S. universities by tightening restrictions on Confucius Institutes.

The Concerns Over Nations Funding University Campus Institutes in the United States (CONFUCIUS) Act, introduced by Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., targets Chinese-funded cultural centers on college campuses that lawmakers have said are being utilized for propaganda agendas.

"Confucius Institutes are under the control of the Chinese Communist Party in all but name," Kennedy said in a statement Thursday. "They are propaganda centers that threaten academic liberty and free speech without shame, and too many American schools are falling victim to the political con every day."

The CONFUCIUS Act has already passed twice in the Senate during the previous administration but was never voted on in the House, despite having been introduced on a bipartisan basis by Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, R-Ohio, and Rep. Donna Shalala, D-Fla., in July 2020.

Fox News could not immediately reach House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer or Speaker Nancy Pelosi to confirm if the House plans to advance the bill.

If passed by the House and signed into law by President Biden, the measure would cut federal funding from universities that host Confucius Institutes unless they regulate all teaching staff hired for the cultural centers and oversee the curriculum.

The bill also calls for the banning of any "foreign law on any campus" and the protection of "academic freedom" at U.S. universities.

There are currently 55 Confucius Institutes in the U.S., 48 of which are located on college campuses.

In May 2020 the College Republican National Committee and the College Democrats of America wrote a joint letter calling for the "immediate and permanent closure of all Confucius Institutes in the United States." The letter cited concerns over human rights violations regarding the Uighurs, Hong Kongers and Tibetans, amongst other groups.

The joint letter also noted concerns over the "present state of academic freedom" as Confucius Institutes can threaten universities by withholding funding in order to achieve objectives important to the Chinese government, like prohibiting the Dalai Lama from speaking on university campuses.

U.S. officials on both sides of the aisle have been critical of the Chinese cultural program, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who issued warnings to schools in all 50 states that the PRC was running a "global influence campaign."

President Biden’s pick for CIA director, William Burns, also told lawmakers he would advise on barring them from universities.

"My advice for any institutions in the United States, including academic institutions, is to be extraordinarily careful of what the motives are for a variety of institutions like that and to be very careful in engaging them," Burns said last week.

Marjorie Taylor is a U.S. representative for Georgia's 14th congressional district.

basically, she is proposing the idea within the republican party to deport all Chinese who are loyal to the CCP of China.

that's steven Bannon with her who was a former cabinet member of Donald Trump.

Republicans have been itching for this since Trump was elected. the difference is she did not give an F about political correctness because she is not running for president.

There are layers of shittiness to her statement:

The Chinese understand one thing and that is money

Classic bigot strategy. “X group doesn’t have human values; they just care about money.”

I would put tariffs back in place and they would be more strict than [former] President [Donald] Trump’s because those tariffs worked.

If Trump’s tariffs worked, then why would hers need to be more strict? Is she saying Trump wasn’t good enough?

I would kick out every single Chinese in this country that is loyal to the CCP

So she’s going to start instituting loyalty tests? How does she envision those would be conducted? Notice that she doesn’t even make a point between distinguishing between Chinese nationals and ethnically Chinese US citizens.
