She got so pissed b/c she had no clue what the street names were. This would have happened anywhere Roman alphabets are not being used but it happened in  Thailand. I think in order to help foreigners out, they should also put the street name in roman alphabets, at least in large urban areas.  That was years ago so may be different now. Now, in Vietnam, there are a couple of reputable taxi companies that we are advised to use so we don't get cheated. I was in Budapest before the pandemics and despite it being a clean and modern city, did not have reputable taxi services. You could call them but took a long time. More convenient were these independent drivers that charge you 3x the price.
