What you think? -laugh

NOTE: the places shown here are mostly in Mindanao BUT gun culture in the Philippines is NOT only in Mindanao. The guy making the guns is actually from the internationally known Danao City in Cebu (not Mindanao).

Here are other links

Priests and guns (unfair picture, most priests don't carry guns---albeit new law allows them to---this is a picture of a priest blessing a gun; blessing is typical in the Philippines, buying a new house or a new car, people get it 'blessed')

Journalists (Philippines was noted a few years ago by HRW as the journalist murder capital of the world---no surprise why they need to pack heat)

Anyone use to watch History Channel's shooting competition shows Top Shot? You guys noticed that there's at least 2 Filipinos (not including halfies) in ALL the seasons? -laugh

This one is done by Reuters, also on Danao "the Gun Making" City, Cebu.

The report is wrong though (about guns being brought by the Spanish). It may be true with Danao City, but gunmaking is older in the Philippines. Filipino also made guns out of bamboo and used it against Spanish, Americans and even Japanese. There were also a lot of illegal guns during Marcos' time. My grandfather buried a cache of weapons that he and his friends owned when Marcos started purging during the martial law days. -laugh

"Paltik" is the term used for 'home made guns' in the Philippines.

This one is Rappler's report on gun sports.

Sulu/Mindanao gun culture and conflicts. This is what is fact: most violence in "Muslim areas" AREN'T about radical Islam.

No. 1 source of conflict (anywhere in the world ESP. in the Philippines = politics + money + power). It's true in Mindanao, it's true in many places in the Philippines.

Proof: clan wars also exist in many places of the Philippines. My Waray (Leyte) family 3-4 of them are in jail for murder because of family feuds. In Mountain Province, Igorots (famous for head hunting) STILL fight each other from time to time today.

No. 1 reason for deaths = Filipino warrior culture (penchant for carrying arms, whether blades or guns) + HUGE SUPPLY of high quality weapons for cheap.
