Threatening with nukes means that you have no other threat that works against Japan. China is just becoming the new North Korea.

China is simply afraid of Japanese navy sinking all Chinese ships all the way from Malacca straits to East China Sea. Why? Because Japan will not let China control the flow of shipments through SCS & Taiwan strait.
