Artist, architects and engineers, soccer nation, creative and practical people, sociable people, big families, extravagant lifestyle, fashion conscious, history and culture, Roman Catholics, big beautiful churches and architectures, culinary cuisines such as pizza, pasta, spaghetti and a few desserts and wines and sports cars.
My understanding is that Roman civilization was the most influential to the world. Our modern cities today modeled itself after Roman cities - schools, roads, streets, court house, malls, fast food, markets, banks, church, government, military and plus more.

Some parts of my town have Italian bishops and settlers in thee founding thats because in the early Spanish era, Milan and Sicily used to be part of the Spanish Empire.

Italian colonists. (Parts of Italy was under the Spanish Empire)
We have Italian surname like Piamonte and Milano in our town's Cathedral founder registry.
Its not surprising to find Italians acrose the Spanish empire since many were hired as explorers and soldiers by Spain, the most famous one was Christopher Colombus.

Christopher Colombus is the most famous in the Americas although the New World was named after Amerigo Vespucci.
In Philippines, the most famous would have to be Antonio Pigafetta, a Venetian-Italian scholar and explorer who was onboard Magellan's historic voyage around the world. He was recognize for documenting our languages, culture, plants, and did a journal report on events that took place on the islands of the Philippines. He also mapped out a few islands before Magellan's crew arrived to the Philippines such as Mariana Island including Guam and when they arrived on the Philippines he mapped out Cebu, Bohol, Mactan and drew pictures of our people with tattoos. After they left the Philippines, he mapped out islands from our neighboring countries such as Borneo, Moluccas Islands ( Spice Islands), East Timor-Leste of Indonesia. Europeans for the first time saw a world that was completely new, different and far away since Marco Polo made his famous exploration on land and sea in the 1300's
There were several hundreds of people onboard Magellan's voyage and yet only a handful made it back alive arriving in Spain in 1522 as they become the first people to circumnavigate the globe although Magellan himself wasn't able to complete this journey and was replace by Juan Elcano. Without Antonio Pigafetta's journals, we would have not known any of these historical events today. He also documented possibly the first person to circumnavigate the globe. His name - Enrique of Malacca and he has been referred to as a Filipino in some articles since he was able to communicate effectively with the Cebuano people of the Philippines in 1521.

How often do Filipinos have names like Piamonte, Milano?
Do you have the source where I can find the founder's registry?
Milano sounds more like an Italian Jew. Are there Jews in the Philippines too?
Italian surnames aren't common but they can be occasionaly seen. I don't think our church has its' founders' registry online but I have pics of the French, Italian and Spanish mestizos who's cenotaphs are engraved in the Cathedral's walls.

It's strange how we have alot of prominent French Mestizo families in the Cathedral Registry but only 1 Italian Archbishop, when Spain actually colonized Italy but didn't invade France.

Some Filipinos have the last name Lamera which is also found in Lombardia region in Italy and in several countries around the world. The surname arrived in Philippines through Spain.

Somewhere in the range of 1504 and 1713, half of Italy (on occasion in excess of a half) had a place with Spain. During the eighteenth century, numerous Italian areas were administered by individuals from Spanish decision family and kept up close connections with Spain. So it was very normal for individuals from one Spanish-controlled land to move to another Spanish-administered land.

Hello!
I'm an old member that's sort of new here, with my first post!
I have a fairly good opinion of Italians given the general image I have that's very rose-tinted of them, their history & not to mention my love of cinema & their immense contribution. My biggest crushes are Al Pacino and Alain Delon (who is sort of half Italian). But I've never met an Italian & never been to Italy so it's a very idealistic image.
My father otoh who has been to Italy several times, has a negative opinion. But perhaps it's only negative to be a Devil's advocate to my naive rose-tinted image & he was just trying to shake me, lol!

@ciccotelli My father died last october from colon cancer. But he was an airline pilot & traveled frequently, Italy was one of the places he traveled often to.
My father is a major introvert, conservative, & very reserved so he doesn't like extroverts or loud people, & Italians have a reputation for being extroverted (but so are many Filipinos). But I don't think he disliked Italians really, he was just bad-mouthing them for my benefit because like I said, I have a very romanticized image of them based on films alone & reading the history of the people. He was basically being an extremist just to bring me down to reality, lol.

I am so sorry to hear what happen to your father, my condolences to your father & family.
I hope you visit Italy someday and find out for yourself 😊 There are a Filipinos here that speak Italian fluently. Filipinos integrate very well unlike other ethnic groups.

I would love to go to Italy, especially Rome, visit all the historical places, the colosseum, the Vatican, that Filipino restaurant that supposedly is divine!
Also I love the Italian language, it's the most musical to me out of all the Latin languages. & you can't deny the immense contribution both Rome, & later Italy, have done for the West. Just think of Hollywood, Italian Americans are a minority in the US but their effect on the culture & films are astounding, why have such a small group had such a big impact? In food, in films, in the arts, even fashion, it seems in every aspect of the West, Italy has contributed about 30% of it. & the best film of all time IMO The Godfather films & the best actor I have the honor of witnessing in his lifetime, Al Pacino, are both Italian ethnically/culturally.
So yeah, I would love to visit one day!

Filipinos are generally seen as hard workers & trustworthy. One of the nicest people I have ever met were Filipinos. I find them to be talented and creative.
I find Philippines a very interesting place because I think it's a gateway between Asia and Western Europe. The Philippines Also has a great potential to make a impact to the world someday.

A lot of tourist sites have reopened and several more will reopen soon around the world.
Philippines has a lot of colonial architectures during Spanish Era but we have only a few Pre-Hispanic structures.
Tourist travel to the Philippines to visit mainly our beaches and tropical rainforest. They find out that some of the cities such as Manila are continuously being develop with big malls, new high rising buildings, restaurants and shopping centers and plus more.

ITALIAN American teens ( New York) are seen as cool, swagy, Unique slangs. Italians have the same swag as black and hispanic people LOL.
The Italian teens in my school were members of the crips gangs ( black based gang) lol.

Filipinos in Manila, America and Canada will likely mention Pizza but in the provinces of the Philippines they would likely mention Spaghetti instead. The locals in the provinces are accustomed to cooking and eating Filipino Spaghetti at their home, restaurants, and parties. Filipinos use either tomato sauce or banana sauce, ground beef or hot dog, mozzarella cheese (Carabao cheese), carbonara sauce or cheddar cheese and oregano spice.

Pizza is popular now everywhere in the Philippines however Filipinos in the provinces only eat it mainly on special occasions since it is somewhat expensive to purchase. Filipinos Spaghetti fits their daily budget and the amount of serving could satisfy 2 or more people sometimes. Today there are some Filipino pizza franchises and they do attract a lot of customers during prime time however there are not enough well known fast food chains that serves pizzas as of yet. For example, Jolli Bee serves Filipino Spaghetti and it is a favorite meal among youngsters.
At home, several Filipinos make their own spaghetti, while only a handful of Filipinos in such places as in Manila actually could make their own pizza.

With real italian pizza, you will find homemade sauce made from freshly peeled tomatoes and a blend of savory, complimenting herbs. You will also notice that authentic Italian pizza doesn't combine the toppings and sauce to be cooked together. They simply layer the sauce along the crust.
Authentic Italian Pizza is more healthier since some ingredients are not considered process food and the crust is not as thick compared to here in America. The thicker the crust, the more carbs which is considered unhealthy. Original Italian Pizzas are cooked inside a brick-wood fired ovens ( aka a Pizza kiln ) somewhere between 800 degrees to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

American pizza is served differently from authentic Italian pizza.
Authentic pizza has more crisper crust.

I'm sure you know it already but here's some more differences.
American Pizzas have commercialize names like meat-lover pizza, pepperoni pizza, veggie pizza, cheese pizza, supreme pizza.
Dessert pizza or fruit pizza and nutella pizza are American Pizzas also.
Authentic Italian Pizzas are usually named after regions, provinces, sur names, famous people, family names, etc.
Each region has their own trademark pizza.
Several generation family owned pizza places have their own unique recipes.
Italians prefer to use one meat as a topping while in America they like to combine it with other meat toppings such as meat-lover pizza and loaded meat pizza which contains pepperoni, meatballs, bacon, ham, sausage and plus more.
In America, they deliver pizzas by car mainly but in Italy they deliver by mopeds or scooters or they don't provide pizza delivery.

Okay, Thanks for the tip. I will look for more authentic pizza in the future. I can tell that the crust looks better than the American pizza.
