@athena in all honesty only fil-ams actually have an opinion of vietnamese. Most filipinos in the Philippines only know of Vietnam as a member of ASEAN. Other then that they are not talked about.

@angelo Vietnamese have a village on Palawan island. It's easy for them to blend into society. Most Filipinos pay attention to people who are different from us.

I dated one in college and I'll I can say Vietnamese culture is very foreign to us. Overall, I get along with most Vietnamese people I met. Spring rolls are probably the dish I love the most.

There aren't many Vietnamese outsides of Ontario for me to have a concrete opinion. I do know 1 out of 4 Vietnamese work in the manufacturing industry. around 25% are catholic while the other half are Buddhist.

@james

The French tricked the Spanish (And the  Spaniards, Filipinos, Mexicans, and Peruvians living in the Philippines) into supporting the French colonization of IndoChina. At first the Spanish were concerned that the Vietnamese Emperor were killing Catholics so they supported the protection of Vietnamese Catholics from the Kinh Emperor's genocidal policies and the French feigning that as justification also recruited people in the Philippines to help them.

Both France and Spanish-Philippines became allies in a war in Vietnam presumably to protect Catholics.

However when France started colonizing IndoChina, Spanish-Filipinos left the war effort in disgust, but the damage has already been done, France has now colonized IndoChina.

@selurong Tu Duc was right about Catholics. Once you turn catholic, you'll side with the white men. Viet resisted fighting for dignity while the Pinoy laid down their arms & spread the legs of their women 🤣
