I wonder how they treated her in China when she was younger.

Actually, a lot of northern Chinese have some random southern shifted phenotype. It can look very ancient and archaic; big noses, big foreheads, big ears, big lips, dark skin, etc.

She can pass here

Well Mainland China doesn't have much SEAsians , its mostly HK where they work as maids.
