I can also draw from personal experience. For about 10 years, I have been accepted in East Asian circles because of the way I look.

I always say I'm from the Philippines of course, reactions vary depending on where in East Asia the asker is from:

• I find Mainland Chinese (surprisingly) to be less biased about the Philippines than Hong Kongers and Singaporeans as there are not a lot of Filipino maid stereotypes in Mainland China. There is a lot more emphasis on fair skin in Mainland China though. They also think their military might is the best in Asia (screw that bs).

• Japanese are very polite and I mostly enjoy their company. The thing with them is they think their culture is the best in Asia so it's okay if other asians are more impolite as it is a given that they come from "lower level" asian cultures (screw that bs).

• Koreans were generally nice to me. Some of them thought I'm Chinese and tried to greet me Gong Xi Fa Cai during Chinese new year before the pandemic, I said I was Filipino, they suddenly got silent haha! Not so chatty all of a sudden now huh? They also think their culture is top notch now because of the Hallyu wave. I think Korean women are more judgemental than the men.

All three nations are collectivist in nature and ride-off their country's achievements as their own. Even the worst losers in these countries use their nation's achievements to boost their self esteem.

Koreans will accept her because she looks mostly Korean but will look down on her parents' union once they find out one is Filipino.

Koreans also do this with Southeast asians that initially look Chinese, Japanese, or Korean just with looks; they will treat them differently once they find out they are from an ASEAN country. These "Chinito" southeast asians will still be treated better than pure Southeast asian or Negrito looking people though, Koreans are generally vain and xenophobic.

thank you for telling the truth! it makes me angry at ass-kissing Filipinos in here. instead of calling out evil, they turn a blind eye and make excuses.

Most of them are anti-black & anti-brown but they love black culture. They reap the achievements of colored people in America while being racists behinds their backs.
