There used to be a NATO like organization but for South Asia called SEATO or “Southeast Asia Treaty Organization” from 1954-1977, it was mutual defense and its members were France, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Thailand, and Pakistan. It was supposed to stop the spread of communism but it fell apart after the Vietnam War. Should it be revived so countries like Japan, South Korea, and Australia along with the US and other countries can counter China in the region?

what do you guys think? should ASEAN assemble the crew back

it's already being revived with AUKUS and QUAD as an extension of SEATO. The U.S & the Philippines/Thailand were always the centerpieces of SEATO.

SEATO was disbanded because ASEAN members have no interest in killing each other over communist ideals.

@dyno Correct but it has the same goal of deterring communism but instead it's China today

Hindu Indians hate the west more than China. they will turn against it on a dime. QUAD is just a conference it doesn't have even a single document or treaty.

SEATO was an imperialist organization of course no ASEAN country wants that back.

Russia got totally pushed out by Europe. They are together with China and all non-western countries. China will be the economic wing Russia will be the military wing. The west cannot dominate the world anymore instead they have to behave like normal countries and respect others at last.
