Police are searching for a man who shot a 16-year-old boy on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Red Line near Chinatown in Chicago.

The unidentified boy was reportedly shot in the ear and eye at around 2:05 a.m. on Sunday while on a train near Cermak-Chinatown Station.

Although the 16-year-old heard several shots fired, he could not give further details on the shooting, according to police.

The victim was brought to Stroger Hospital and listed in serious condition.

A witness reportedly gave police a description of the offender, leading officers to arrest a potential suspect.

However, the man was later released without being charged as further investigation led police to believe the shooter to be a different man.

On Sunday night, police issued a community alert and released a video of the suspect. The surveillance footage shows him holding a gun.

Although police have increased patrols on buses and trains, CTA riders still expressed concerns for their safety.

“It’s very tragic. A lot of young kids depend on the CTA to get to work, school, see their friends – it should be a safe space for all riders,” CTA rider Emilio Mara told Fox 32 Chicago.

Seven juveniles were shot over the weekend in Chicago, with two of them dead, according to reports. Crimes on the CTA, including homicides, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and criminal sexual assault have been at all-time highs since 2015

A New Jersey man admitted his involvement in a string of burglaries targeting the homes of Asian business owners in Northeastern states from 2016 to 2019.

Randi Barr, 41, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property in Newark federal court on Thursday, according to a Justice Department release.

Barr is one of eight suspects accused of ransacking more than 50 Asian-owned homes in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware between December 2016 and March 2019. They allegedly stole hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, jewelry, firearms and other valuable items.

The crew allegedly began their scheme by placing their targets under surveillance. Once the homeowners were out, they would often break into unsecured second-floor windows.

One suspect said they targeted Asian homeowners because “it was believed that the victims kept large sums of currency and jewelry in their residences.” A note seized by authorities contained a list of addresses that used “derogatory

Two Men Arrested in the 2018 Murder of Hunter

December 23, 2022

BATH TOWNSHIP, MI—Two men have been arrested in connection with a murder of a hunter in Bath Township back in 2018.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced on Thursday, December 22, the arrests of Thomas Olson, 34, of Grand Blanc Township, and Robert Rodway, 34, of Saint Johns. Four years, one month, and six days after Chong Moua Yang was found shot dead at the Rose Lake State Game Area.

Olson and Rodway were arrested late Wednesday night by the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team, according to WILX.

Both Olson and Rodway face one count of Felony Murder, which carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole, and one count of Felony Firearm, which carries a two-year prison sentence.

Yang often hunted in the Rose Lake State Game Area, but his wife was alarmed when he didn’t return home. His family drove out to search for him and found his car in the parking lot. They followed two sets of footprints which eventually led them to his body, reports WILX.

When authorities arrived, they found Yang lying face down with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. His firearm and other items were missing.

A $20,000 reward was soon offered for information about Yang’s death.

The Attorney General’s office explained witness testimony and a plastic bag with hunting spray that was recovered near the scene led authorities to Olson and Rodway. Nessel believes the defendants killed Yang while hunting and then stole his headlamp, knife, backpack, wallet, and shotgun.

“The Bath Township Police Department worked closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other local agencies and prosecutors to gather evidence, establish a timeline of events, and locate the defendants,” stated Nessel. “I am grateful for their persistence and hard work in pursuing this case. Chong Yang’s family deserves justice, and we are working hard to make sure they receive it.”

Yang’s family released the following statement after the arrest announcement:

“For the last four years, we have struggled with the knowledge that someone out there decided to end Chong Moua’s life and leave him to die alone in the woods. But today, Thursday, December 22, 2022, marks the first day that we can come up for a little fresh air.

With the arrest of two men, Thomas Olson and Robert Rodway comes bittersweet emotions of excitement and anxiousness. We admit that during these last four years of the investigation, there were times when we were angry, frustrated, and impatient with the whole process. But…we never lost hope.

We never lost hope that through the diligent effort of Bath Township, the FBI, and numerous other agencies, we would be able to find answers. We never lost hope that someone, somewhere would be able to provide information that would lead to the arrest of these killers. Today is the start of the journey to finding answers and closure. We start that journey of holding the people who killed Chong Moua responsible for their actions.

We want to thank the law enforcement community for their commitment to this case. The hunting community for their unwavering support for one of their hunting brothers. And the community as a whole, those near and far, for all their love and support during the darkest time in our lives.

We know that the arrests are only the first steps in this chapter, but are encouraged that the Attorney General’s office will pursue this matter diligently, and bring these men to justice.”

Downtown Seattle art business targeted by criminals for sixth time in 17 months

December 18, 2022 at 4:21 pm PST

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

An art business in Downtown Seattle was recently targeted by criminals for the sixth time in the past year and a half.

This time, the owner of Fossil and Stone said someone drove a car into their front door to try and get inside. Kathy Lee tells KIRO 7 she’s beyond frustrated, and is worried about her business surviving with all this new damage happening the weekend before Christmas.

Ring video shows glass flying as the man kicks the door.

“I’m very frustrated. I was here before police were,” Lee said. “We’re just people trying to make a living, we’re a small family business, and there’s no law and order.”

When the suspect didn’t get in, Lee said someone then tried driving into the business.

The camera doesn’t quite show it, but you can see a silver SUV drive onto the sidewalk at Second and Pine. The driver appears to ram the business once before driving away.

“I love this store. I love the art here. I love the people that come here and it makes me really upset that this event is ruining that,” Lee said. “It’s ruining the holiday season.”

KIRO 7 has talked with Lee before. In April, a man stole an ancient mammoth tusk from Fossil and Stone.

“It’s incredibly frustrating,” said Lee. “This is our sixth event in 17 months and we feel helpless.”

Now, their front door is boarded up, making it much harder for foot traffic to enter the store and browse for a piece of art in the final week before Christmas.

“This is a critical time for us, with the holidays,” Lee said. “We’re grateful for the people that are coming to visit us and support us, but we’re struggling.”

KIRO 7 has reached out to Seattle police. They said increased patrols are still in effect around Third and Pike in Downtown Seattle, and the department continues to work with the mayor’s office and prosecutors to address crime downtown.
