Generals representing the US Indo-Pacific Command attended an international defense exhibition in Vietnam during a press conference on the morning of December 9
That was revealed by US Air Force Brigadier General Sarah Russ during a press conference on the morning of December 9 at the US Embassy in Hanoi. Ms. Russ is in Vietnam attending the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition in 2022.
“The US is very happy that Vietnam has chosen us as one of its partners to modernize the pilot training program for the Vietnamese Air Force,” the one-star general raised the issue at a press conference before revealing that the US would delivered 12 T-6 military training aircraft to Vietnam.
“These aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2024 and 2027. The first three will be delivered in the first quarter of 2024, two or three more by the end of that year. The rest will be delivered. assigned in 2027,” General Russ revealed at the press conference.
T-6 is a propeller aircraft line built by Raytheon and first introduced in 2000. This aircraft is used for primary and intermediate training purposes in the US Air Force.
The T-6 family of aircraft has many versions, of which the T-6A Texan II is used for training purposes.
Some export versions have armament attachment points on the wings that allow the T-6 to act as a light attack. Currently, more than a dozen countries are using T-6 aircraft, most of which are T-6A versions.

In addition to providing aircraft, the US also supports Vietnam in training technicians for maintenance tasks and pilots using T-6 aircraft.

BANGKOK, Thailand -- Vietnamese gunners shot down a Thai jet fighter today in an area along the Thai-Cambodian border where hundreds of civilians were reported massacred with hand grenades and bayonets.
Military sources in the Thai border province of Surin, 225 miles northeast of Bangkok, said a Royal Thai Air Force A-37 Dragonfly was hit by Vietnamese ground fire late today.
The American-made warplane crashed in a rice field, killing the pilot and co-pilot, the sources said. It was the first Thai plane lost since the Vietnamese launched an offensive eight days ago against Cambodian guerrillas in the border area.
Unconfirmed reports said the jet was hit by a Soviet-built SAM, or surface-to-air missile.
