@wei-nihao slaves? No one has taken our freewill to choose our destiny. Meanwhile Taiwanese, Uyghurs, Tibetans are being forced.

@james I don't see a lot of freewill because I don't see independence, I don't see respect for truth. this is the sort of situation that led to colonialism. you have people hopping on a bandwagon that leads to their enslavement. is that freewill? they think it is!
you think Taiwanese, Uighurs, Tibetans are being forced. but they're chinese citizens. the west doesn't want them to be part of china so they call them as forced. You think in congress republicans and democrats don't force things on each other? Police don't force things on certain kinds of people in your country? China's tensions are tensions among its citizens, they have nothing to do with why you should hate China. What about US dropping 15 million tons of bombs and agent orange on Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia? 1000 people still die each year from unexploded bombs. Was that forceful? Or just 15 million tons of political dissent in your opinion?

@wei-nihao We are worried because China has already invaded Vietnam in the 70's and now it's South China Sea or should I say Asean sea.
The Anti communist war in mainland South East Asia is endorsed by Philippines,Thailand,Indonesia,Malaysia because ASEAN unity is much easier to accomplish if we all had similar government structure.

@james Vietnam was invading Cambodia and tried to annex IndoChina. China didn't try to occupy Hanoi change the government. It was a border war.
CCP leaders have always been against imperialism they wouldn't even claim same hegemony as the USA. The west never shows you speeches made by Deng, Hu, Xi on the topics of imperialism.

The reason cited for the attack was to support China's ally, the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia, in addition to the mistreatment of Vietnam's ethnic Chinese minority and the Vietnamese occupation of the Spratly Islands which were claimed by China.
Sounds like China will repeat the 70s blueprint to invade other Asean nations once US looses power. I see where Putin learned the playbook to invade Ukraine.

@james it's the most peaceful way to resolve territorial issues.
Vietnam's claims are inherited from French, who China helped you defeat. Phillippine's claim is from nothing at all. China gained control of SCS as result of ww2. It's impossible that China can yield this territory to Vietnam and Phillippines. So, building island bases is the most peaceful to resolve the issue over time.

@james Nah you worry too much. Taiwan can be annexed but the West is now starting to recognize their Frankenstein monster as a threat to their global order and national security. A China that expands beyond East Asia and coerces American allies in ASEAN is a no-no to them.
Vietnam is part of ASEAN and geopolitically South East Asia. Taiwan is not recognized as a country and geopolitically East Asia. The Yanks will strong arm Taiwan but would not mourn if Taiwan was wiped off the map tomorrow. However China sucessfully invading & controlling Vietnam would mean China expanding influence into another region outside of East Asia, moving their military closer to Malacca straits and making China containment strategy by Western powers much harder to succeed.
In geopolitics, Vietnam's independance and neutral status is way more important to Western powers, Japan and ASEAN than Taiwan's independance.
But then you have a Chinese dictator who wants to be seen as a powerful ruler like the emperors of past Chinese empires so who knows? Right now their strategy is simply bullying us into submission but this strategy may change in the near future.

@dadadas I am not an American, but the American members here mentioned the U.S policy towards Taiwan. Taiwan will be treated as part of the 1st island chain along with Japan, S.Korea Philippines, Guam. it makes sense from a military perspective. If China controls Taiwan, then Japan & South Korea will be choked.

@james Taiwan does have some strategic importance but its strategic importance is less than nations around the Champa Sea.
If the Chinks use Taiwan to choke Japan & S.Korea, the Yanks can use Malacca Strait to choke the Chinks and the Chinks dont have countermeasure to that.

@dadadas ever heard of wolf warriors' diplomacy? Fake Chinese base isn't there to claim some islands in south China sea. It's meant to project power over Asean nations. If Asean nations block the Malacca strait, then China will just invade Indonesia and turn Indonesian into another Chinese province.

@dadadas 😆 Chinese see Vietnamese as a Southern Chinese gone rogue. If China keeps getting stronger, China will claim their lost territories from Russia and OfCourse they will claim Vietnam and outbreed the native Southeast Asians with Han Chinese.

@athena Throughout history these type of people are called traitors. Penalty for treason in most places is a death penalty. ASEAN should start weeding traitors out.
