SAN JOSE — Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found dead early Tuesday on the sidewalk of one of the city’s thoroughfares, but how he died was not immediately released by authorities.
Officers were called at 2:09 a.m. to East Santa Clara Street just west of Highway 101 for a report of a person appearing to be unconscious on the ground, according to San Jose police. They arrived to find a man with unspecified trauma, and he was pronounced dead.
Additional details, including any suspects, the circumstances of the death, or how the man died were not released by police. But they did declare the death to be the city’s fourth homicide of the year.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office also did not have a cause of death listed as of Monday afternoon, but identified him as 48-year-old San Jose resident Tong Nguyen.
In the wake of the discovery, police cordoned off East Santa Clara Street between 26th Street and Highway 101.
