NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell calls for an end to woke bail reform laws that let criminals walk free to reoffend as NYC crimes soar by nearly 60%

  • New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell on Sunday called for an end to the state's woke bail reform laws
  • In an interview with WABC Radio's John Catsimatidis, she said she thinks the law 'is definitely part of the thinking that needs to change'
  • She also decried the decriminalization of quality of life crimes, saying judges used to have the discretion whether to prosecute those
  • Her comments come as the NYPD reports that crimes in February rose nearly 60 percent when compared to the year before
  • The crime wave is now continuing into March with an attack at the MoMa and two attacks on homeless individuals over the weekend
  • Mayor Eric Adams has already called for an end to the bail reform laws

Defund the police increases crime rates everywhere the policy is adopted.

To be fair, Defunding the police isn't the only cause of rising crimes. Lack of job opportunity decreases the middle class in which results in higher crime rates.

@dyno there is not a lack of job opportunities. At least for low levels jobs. I've seen countless ads on restaurants for workers. Just this last weekend I saw several fast food restaurant advertised $16-$18/hr. Defunding the police is one leg. Lax criminal laws, ie in California theft below $930 (?) is not prosecutable or that "violent" crimes are now re-defined as those that involves injury to a person. ie robbery at gunpoint is not violent for example bc there's no injury or if you have a violent prior crime but your most current crime wasn't (ie robbery, drug trafficking, etc...) then that previous crime didn't show up on your sentencing, etc...  I can't present exhaustive list but one can look it up. Lots of manipulation to the enforcement of the law.
