NBC New York Filipina reporter Catherine Craig died suddenly at age 47

NBC New York correspondent Catherine Craig, who was a familiar face to local newsmen turning to Channel 4, died suddenly on Wednesday, according to the station.

The 47-year-old Craig debuted at WNBC in 2011 and covered many topics.

She was not ill and acted like it was Wednesday morning, the station reported. No other details were shared.

NBC New York said, “Quickly recognized for his distinctive voice and hearty laughter, Craig was the first face to wake up many New Yorkers everyday.”

Known as Kat to her co-hosts and audiences, Craig spent five years at Fox before joining NBC. The New York University graduate has won or shared several Emmy, AP and Muro awards.

According to the news, the vice president of WNBC said, “For 10 years Kat was one of our corners, always willing to help in any situation, whether she was a coworker or in need of a shift. She was thoughtful, funny and Was relentless. ” Amy Morris, said in an email to employees. “And even on the harshest days he was a bright light, quick with a kind word and a smile.”

NBC 4 New York President and General Manager Eric Lerner said that Thursday was a very difficult day for our station.

“Kat Craig was a dear member of the WNBC news team and a great friend to so many people. She loved her audience and the city she served so much, we love her and will miss her. At this time Our thoughts are with his family. ”Said Lerner.

A native of Manila, Philippines, NBC New York, Craig was fond of Filipino food and was the first to alert colleagues to try to move to a new location.

The station said she would be remembered for her endless energy, even when she was reporting to work, was still dark, and the generous support of many charities.

Craig is survived by a son, two daughters, and her husband of 14 years, Bill Gaffner.

Tributes to the reporters who knew Craig and the audience who felt as if he knew the flooding on social media on Thursday, many mentioned Craig’s kindness and spirit.

NY1 Michael said, “It’s just heart-wrenching news. Whenever I had to work in the morning shift and run into Catherine, I knew it was going to be a good day. She was very hot and always She kept smiling. ” Scotto wrote on Twitter.

City Hall reporter Kat Honon in The Wall Street Journal wrote, “Kat made everything better and more beautiful by being there. Energetic, thoughtful, caring, fun. A great reporter, friend and wonderful wife and mother. Please. . Her family and colleagues today. “
