Why do they call the city La Ciudad Blanca?It was called the White City because its buildings and a wall around it were of white stone.
LA CIUDAD BLANCA stood out when compared to several Mesoamerican structures since the latter were primarily painted red along with green, greenish blue and blue. What stone did they use that was colored white? The city itself did reflect a lot of sunlight during the day and a lot of moonlight at night which would have been clearly visible from a distance.
Are the people that built this site considered Mayans or another Mesoamerican group? Why would they paint a color that was dissimilar to their neighbors? Does this perhaps suggest a different group of people altogether that built it or not?
The Maya used a variety of colors in their lives. Though today, the Mayan Pyramids are the color of stone, during the Mayan civilization, they were brightly painted. Red, white, black, and yellow all held religious significance. The most sacred colors were blue-green and blue.
