The Rarest Gemstone on Earth (Literally 1 of 1)

 

This mineral is the only faceted specimen of its kind on the planet. But think about the absolute, terrifying gamble that took place before anyone actually knew what it was.

When that rough, reddish-orange pebble was bought in the market, someone had to cut it. A lapidary had to attach it to a dop stick and physically grind it against a spinning diamond wheel to put those facets onto it.

Because it had never been studied, they had no idea how it would react to heat, friction, or vibration. They didn't know its cleavage planes or how brittle it was. They could have easily shattered it, polished it into dust, or completely ruined the optical performance.

The lapidary who faceted this stone was flying completely blind, totally unaware they were casually grinding away at the most unique geological anomaly in human history.
