Mayans knew that there were several islands and large landmasses on the northeastern side of the Gulf of Mexico and it's likely that they traveled by boats to Florida via Caribbean Islands and established small satellite communities. The ocean current and trade winds allowed their boats to travel to far away places. Several findings located in Florida does resemble the artifacts and ancient mounds found in the Yucatan Peninsula.
