They are both considered "SE-Asian" components in population genetics, but what exactly separates the two from each other from a genetic standpoint?
From what I know the Austro-Asiatic component peaks in the Cambodian/Thai hill tribals such as the H'tin peoples. Whilst Austronesian peaks in the Igorots of the Northern Philippines and also in the Taiwanese Aborigine groups such as the Ami and Atayal. Igorots have the component in nearly pure amount whilst Taiwan-aborigines also possess around 10-15% EastAsian/Daic admixture mixed in as well.
Igorots can be classified as a sub-type of Southern Chinese but as a slightly less progressive type; they are genetically close and almost nearly connected to the Dai peoples of Southern China though still separate.
On some genetic papers 'Austro-Asiatic' is replaced with a 'Proto-Malay' label instead.
