I was encouraged with Rambos Filipino-American history, so I guess I will do the same with Filipino-Canadian history and recognition tribute.

There's school.  The holiday is quite rather new and it's mainly observed by Filipinos.  The local events such as festivities are probably similar to here in America.   Filipinos celebrate Filipino American History Month (FAHM) on October and they have festivals and block party events. However FAHM isn't an Independence Day holiday, instead they observe the arrival of the first Filipinos in America on October 18th, 1587.

do you live in Canada? I have never seen Filipino America celebrate in October. Filipinos usually celebrate after the Puerto Rican parade.

I don't live Canada.

Filipino Americans have staged the events on outdoor parks or near the beach shores in SoCal.  Awhile back I did attend one festival in San Pedro. They had singers, comedians, and other performing acts.  They provided a lot of food, merchandise and souvenirs at the booth.

it's still new as last year, school ends on June 25 in Canada. Just recognition is all we need.

Filipino Independence Day Parade in NYC.  Have you or anyone attended this event?

Join us as we celebrate the 121st 🇵🇭 Philippine Independence Anniversary Commemoration. It will be the 29th Annual Parade in New York City.

National recognition is good enough, let's just be happy with what our government is doing for us.

June is Filipino Heritage Month. Let us take this time to acknowledge the important contributions the Filipino community make to Canada. As Member of Parliament for Don Valley East, I thank and celebrate the Filipino community for their hard work and achievements. #FilipinoHeritageMonth #DonValleyEast

Filipino Heritage Month is June in Canada which is the same month the Filipinos observed Independence Day in Philippines on June 12th however I don't get the impression that they celebrate it as much as compared to the other holidays.

Originally Philippines celebrated Independence Day on July 4th commemorating it's independence from both colonial countries but it was moved later on to June 12th.

Statement by Minister Rodriguez on Filipino Heritage Month

Statement

OTTAWA, June 2, 2019

This June, Canadians mark the inaugural Filipino Heritage Month.

On October 30, 2018, the House of Commons unanimously adopted June as Filipino Heritage Month in recognition of Canadians of Filipino descent and the contributions they have made to our country.

With a community of over 850,000, Filipino Canadians are the fastest‑growing community in the country. Proud of its rich heritage and history, the community has made and continues to make outstanding social, economic, political, and cultural contributions to our society. Filipino Heritage Month is an opportunity for us to recognize and learn more about the Filipino community in Canada and the valuable role they play in creating an open and diverse society.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, I invite all Canadians to learn more about the rich culture and traditions of our fellow citizens of Filipino descent and to take part in the many activities taking place across the country in June. Happy Filipino Heritage Month!
