it's goes both ways. If China were to attack American allies/base/aircraft carriers. The U.S will launch nuclear warheads at China.
China is said to have thousands of underground railroad nuclear silos that can survived nuclear attacks. But U.S also have missiles that penetrates underground bases.

The Chinese don't want to kill us, they just want us to be a dependant on them, become economic slaves & steal our resources.
The Chinese way is to weaken the U.S economy so that the U.S will leave Asia.

His decisions isn't popular among Filipinos but I think it's the best choice on the table.

what? Duterte doesn't have a a long term splan. his plan is to submit and let China & the U.S duke it out.
IF he had a long term plan, He would propose 20-30 year plan for ASean to build a security forces and modernized the army.
a plan to build new military weapons.

Duterte isn't submitting to China, HIs just playing his cards wisely.
If you think ASEAN will end up like Nato, then you are wrong. most Asean countries don't see eye to eye nor have leadership like Germany & France.

Fidel Castro is a dictator with Russian backing, The Philippines has a dictator before that devastated the country. Another dictator uprising will cause a civil war in the Philippines.

WW2 Japan's navy was modernize with the help of the British. having regular allied drills is good for the Philippine army because they will be trained and gain military expertise.
it will take a few decades for the Philippine army to reach south korea level if the Philippine army really wanted to.
