Henan is a province situated on the yellow river that covers much of the central plains. It's the location of Shang, Eastern Zhou, Eastern Han, Tang, and Song cultures. It's the location of Shaolin temple, where martial arts was developed, the province is also the seat of Daoism and Zen Buddhism.

Henan fell off the map after the Jurchen invasion in 11th century. In recent years it has been known for adoptions, migration, and source of social issues. Its economy is in the bottom half of provinces, the main highlights being archaeology and tourism.

But in the last few weeks, the spring festival program "Banquet at Tang Palace" has taken the rest of China by storm, burning through Internet heat maps using a relatively low budget. It's a dance about a troupe of palace musicians frolicking before the main event. Here is the program 😁:

Responding to their popularity, the Henan production team remade the post-festival program in just 5 days, incorporating the dancers in the main story line of terracotta coming back to life.

And more productions to promote tourism:

Their dance is now being imitated by many bloggers.

@jason

the first video platform was youku. bilibili was first to have a "bullet curtain" feature where viewers can make their comments a part of the video. often the comments add highlights and background information and coalesce the public sentiment around the latest topic.

So they're known for, pyramid schemes, stealing manhole covers, losing electric bikes, excessive birthrate, con artists, having famines when nobody else was even having a famine, despite being all farmland. nobody even knew they had a TV channel! they're known for, being a transit junction so everyone lives by a railroad track, fight the wrong side when Japanese invaded, being poor, being poor despite being a transit junction, being poor despite having the most farmland, archeology.
