Is it as bad as the media portraying it to be?
New C.D.C. data showed that nearly 40 percent of patients sick enough to be hospitalized were aged 20 to 54. But the risk of dying was significantly higher in older people.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/ppe-strategy/face-masks.html
Scroll to the bottom. CDC now say makeshift masks like bandannas and scarfs are acceptable if we run out of masks. Seriously, wtf. They keep changing their guidelines. WHO said it's airborne but the CDC said to use surgical masks and re-use until visibly soiled. We don't even have n95 for rule out tuberculosis patients now!! I took care of a MRSA patient with no gown because we have none. They also told us to re-use n95. 🤦♀️ Healthcare providers here will even die more than in other countries. We are so ill equipped thanks to Trump who cut the CDC budget, fired the CDC pandemic team, and delayed responses by playing down everything. We are worst off than Vietnam right now.
My close friend who is a respiratory therapist is scared for her life daily with all these vented covid-19 patients and no proper PPE. They range from all adults age group 20-90+ in the ICU. Some of these patients are so sick. We have tents set up at most hospitals here.
where is this? we are just in the beginning stage, it sounds like your environment is beyond the early stages of this pandemic.
It sounds like you work in Italy or S.korea. How did San Francisco get so bad compared to the rest of North America?
Let me guess, they did not ban flights from China.
I'm not racists or anything like that.
@J.R.C
You have to understand, almost all hospitals in the U.S. are either usually half full or near full during the flu season. Add the covid-19 to this and we run out of beds. We do not have empty beds just available for a sudden surge of patients. We have a set amount that is already occupied by patients with strokes, cancer, heart attacks, etc... In addition we only have about 2.8 doctors to 1,000 people. We do not have enough healthcare providers available for the sudden surge of patients. Our healthcare system is extremely fragmented, it is one of the worst in the developed country. The sudden surge of a few hundred cases in our county is a lot for us to handle. Also, it is not just about banning flights from China. As you can see, anybody can get it and infect others. The U.S. should have take extreme measures like Singapore. They banned all flights and ships from going in and out of their countries, and test everyone. Or like Vietnam where they quarantined everyone coming into their country for 2 weeks and monitor for symptoms. The U.S. similar to other European countries had the mentality that this cannot happen to us. The result is this. You may live in an area with a low infection rates now, but it will surely increase unless people change how they interact with others.
That's because it's China fault for downplaying the virus to the world, them Chinese Singaporeans have cousins in China dropping like flies so they know what's up.
2.8 doctors for 1,000 people? that's so totally fucked up. What happen to the doctors to the states?
I don't live in the states, This virus can destroy our health care system too if everyone gets sick at the same.
I have nothing else to say but
WE ARE TOTALLY FUCKED! The Globe is panicking and don't have an answer.
Most developed countries only have abour 2-3 doctors per 1,000 people. As for hospital beds, we only have about 46,000 to 68,000 ICU beds for a country of more than 300 million people. Hospitals are a business here, they only have so many beds because of profits and costs. Canada healthcare system is better than ours.
Santa Clara county, the epicenter of California.
This virus will cause a Global recession,
- So expect millions to go out of work.
- 401k to drop by 30%
- expect health companies to get bailout bu the government.
th
@lannie
It will get worst because they won't cure it because even Sars doesn't have a cure
I have never seen anything like this in my entire lifetime
