Thai Town (Thai language: ไทยทาวน์) is a six-block area in the East Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California;

The area designated by the city of Los Angeles as Thai Town is a six-block area flanking Hollywood Boulevard between Normandie Avenue and Western Avenue,[2] its entrances being marked by two statues of apsonsi (a mythical half human, half lion angel in Thai folklore).[3] The district has been the home to immigrant groups, including Armenians and Latinos, for a long time, and Thai Americans began settling there in the 1960s.[4][5] The area, which is home to many of the 80,000 Thais estimated to be living in Southern California,[2] was said to be a working-class district that in 2007 was "one of the poorest sections of Los Angeles County, with many residents cramming into low-income apartments and working at minimum-wage jobs."[5] Earlier, in 2000, it was described as "a rundown six-block stretch of Hollywood Boulevard crammed with Thai sweet shops, bookstores, restaurants, markets and newspaper offices."[6]

Yeah, all the places Lotus mentions are in Elmhurst, which is a big Asian neighborhood now. It's in Queens, not that far from Manhattan, on the subway.

Sripraphai has a Thai general store next door to it, run by the same people, but Woodside isn't Thai - more Filipino, Mexican and Irish - Elmhurst is the place to be.

If you're in Midtown Manhattan Pam Real Thai at 49th and 9th is the closest you'll get to Thai home cooking ... but it doesn't hold a candle to Elmhurst.

There's technically no Thai Town in NYC, but there are some great Thai restaurants to be found across the city. Sripraphai is truly wonderful and definitely worth a visit. Woodside is a neighborhood in Queens that's easy to access from midtown: just take the 7 train to 61st Street/Woodside and it's a short walk from there. Here are more detailed directions:
