If you plan to ask for a leave of absence from your workplace in Indonesia, here are some important things that you need to understand.

Like it or not, working is one of the main activities carried out by everyone. Besides being done to earn money, work can also be a means for someone to express their talents and skills so that they can benefit their communities and improve the economic stability of their country.

However, there are always times when you have to ask for a leave of absence from the workplace due to various needs such as resting due to illness, having some sort of calamity, or taking care of various legal-related permits such as extending your driving license or passport.

For this reason, you need to understand clearly about the rules that apply to obtain the leave permits from the company. Without clear information, you can even be accused of being unprofessional and getting sanctions from the company.
If you are working in Indonesia, there are some things you must understand before asking for a leave of absence from your workplace.

Government Regulations regarding Leave Permission

To understand this issue thoroughly, you first need to know the government rules regarding granting permission for the employee’s leave.
Basically, the law regarding leave of absence permits is set forth in the Manpower Act number 13 of 2003. The regulation states that employees have the right to get a leave for at least 12 days per year for the workers who have served the company for a full year (12 months).

In addition, after working in the same company within 6 years, the worker is also entitled to get a long leave permit for 1 month in the seventh and the eighth year (2 months in total). However, using this right will automatically remove your annual leave rights.

Asking for A Leave of Absence from Your Workplace

Actually, the government does not have specific rules regarding the procedure of asking for permission to leave. In other words, each company can freely determine the procedure for applying for leave.

Even so, there are usually a number of things that are commonly done when you are about to apply for leave. These things are:
1. Contacting the Human Resource Department
Human resource department staff are the first person you must contact when you are asking for leave permission. Usually, the HRD staff will ask for some information regarding your leave application. Some large companies even have a number of special forms that you need to fill in when you want to take leave.

2. Informing Your Workmates or Colleagues
If you work in a team, you need to share your plan before applying for leave. This will be beneficial to facilitate your team coordination when you are not working. Submitting leave permit quietly is not recommended because it can interfere with the cohesiveness of your team.

3. Informing Your Head of division or Your Boss
Some small and medium scale companies require you to contact the owner of the company to request leave. This is reasonable, because companies with limited human resources cannot, of course, be able to give leave to their workers without strong reason.

Those are the things that you can do to ask for a leave of absence. Take advantage of your leave rights wisely, don't use leave rights just to laze around, ok?
