Japanese airforce in the philippines

Japanese fighter jets are operating in the Philippines for the first time since World War II at a former U.S. air base, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force announced Wednesday.

A pair of Japanese F-15J Eagles landed Tuesday at the former Clark Air Base, north of Manila on the Philippines’ main island of Luzon, the Air Self-Defense Force tweeted the next day. The post included photographs of the jets parked at Clark, now an international airport, and flying in formation with Philippine FA-50 jets.

“We will promote mutual understanding by unit-to-unit exchanges with [the Philippine Air Force] and develop #DefenseCooperation and exchanges,” said the tweet, which noted the deployment marks the first time the Japanese air force, formed in 1954, has sent fighters to an Association of Southeast Asian Nations country.

Japanese forces in January 1942 overran the then-Clark Field, a U.S. Army Air Corps base that became a major hub for Japanese air operations. Kamikaze fighters launched attacks on U.S. warships from nearby Mabalacat before the area was recaptured in January 1945.

Canada eyes closer ties with PH as part of expanded role in Indo-Pacific

Royal Canadian Navy’s Halifax-class frigate HMCS Vancouver (FFH-131) stops in Manila for a goodwill visit in September 2022 as part of its Indo-Pacific deployment. EMBASSY OF CANADA IN THE PHILIPPINES

MANILA, Philippines—Canada sees warmer relations with the Philippines, including improved defense ties, under the Marcos administration after these were strained when the Canadian government raised concerns over human rights violations in the controversial anti-drug campaign of then-president Rodrigo Duterte.

At a briefing outlining a bigger role in the Indo-Pacific region, the Canadian embassy in Manila, through an official who asked not to be identified in the meantime, said part of Canada’s objective was to normalize relations, including defense cooperation, with the Philippines.

f22 will now be stationed in the Philippines

pair of U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors landed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines earlier this month, signaling closer defense ties between Washington and Manila. The facility is notable for once being part of America's largest overseas base.

The event marked the first time the fifth-generation air-superiority fighter has been deployed to the Southeast Asian nation.

"For the first time in history, two F-22 'Raptor' stealth fighter jets from @PACAF (Pacific Air Forces) landed at Clark Air Base to reinforce commitment to the Mutual Defense Treaty," the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines (@USEmbassyPH) announced via Twitter, further noting that U.S. and Filipino pilots discussed training, aircraft capabilities, and future collaboration.

It might have been a nice change of scenery for the aircrews and support personnel of the 525th Fighter Squadron, which is stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson, Alaska. The F-22s, supported by a KC-135 Stratotanker from the 909th Air Refueling Squadron at Kadena Air Base, Japan, trained with their counterparts from the Philippine Air Force 5th Fighter Wing on March 13-14.
