Elderly Asian Man Punched by Teen in Random Attack in NYC

An 85-year-old Asian man was violently assaulted by a teenager in Manhattan’s East Village on Wednesday morning. 

The elderly man, identified as Himin Li, was approached from behind by a male teen near East 6th Street and Avenue D around 6:30 a.m., according to police reports.

The boy, who was with two teenage girls at the time, allegedly punched Li on the right side of his face with a closed fist. 

Li described the assault to Eyewitness News in Cantonese, saying he never saw it coming. He also added that the group followed him from 10 feet behind for half a block. They reportedly never said a word the entire time.

Li ended up with immense pain and a swollen jaw.

The security guard in his building lobby witnessed the incident and helped the man get up. After confronting the two girls, he immediately called the authorities. All of them had fled when the police officers arrived at the scene.See also

The attacker was described as a Black male, aged around 15 to 18 years old. He was last seen in a multicolored T-shirt, black pants and black sneakers. The two female teens were also described to be between ages 15 and 18.

Asked for comment, Li says he has nothing to say to the teens themselves, but he would ask their parents if they raised their children to pick on and beat up random strangers on the street.
