Randy Santos appears in court in the murder of four homeless men

The man accused of beating to death four people in New York’s Chinatown this weekend twice avoided prosecution on previous charges.

The New York Post reports that in 2018 Randy Santos appeared in court on an assault charge when he began whistling loudly. A bailiff escorted him outside the courtroom, but he allegedly tried to force his way back in until deputies cuffed him. Authorities charged him with resisting arrest.

Both cases languished in the court system so long, that the judge ultimately dismissed both cases.

Police in New York have now named Santos as a suspect in the beating of a homeless man sleeping on a bench September 27, according to ABC7 News. All five victims this weekend, including one who had to be hospitalized with serious injuries, were also homeless.

Argenys Vargas, a New York teen, told CBS New York he witnessed the September 27th attack and stepped in to save the victim.

“I just seen someone get beat over and over. It was really bad to look at to be honest with you,” he said. Vargas said he screamed at the suspect to stop just before he appeared to be ready to throw the victim over the railing into the water.

Santos has not been charged in the September 27th attack.
