Retirement Visa in Indonesia and How to Get It

Many retired people from all around the globe choose to move to a new place or even a new country after their productive period ended. Many opt to move and live in a tropical countrylike Indonesia because that country is simply exotic and unique. The cost of living in Indonesia also said to be lower than many other countries; so, if you are dreaming of living in a house served by maids or driver, it is totally possible there.

The Benefits of Getting the Retirement Visa in Indonesia
There are plenty advantages that foreigner may experience if they choose to settle in Indonesia such as:
• You can enter and exit the country as often as you want.
• You can reside in Indonesia for years.
• You can open bank accounts, hire driver, maids, etc.

The Requirements for You to be Eligible for Retirement Visa in Indonesia
So, getting Indonesia retirement visa sounds like a good idea, and you want to apply for one. Here are the requirements that you have to meet to be eligible for it:
• You are 55 years old or older.
• You don’t have any plans to work in Indonesia.
• You own life and health insurance that covers you while you are in Indonesia.
• You have to look for a living place and sign a minimum of a one-year lease agreement.
• You have to own funds (pension/deposit account) at least USD 18,000 per year.
• You are acitizen of the countries that are available to apply for a retirement visa in Indonesia. 

Documents Needed for Your Application:
• Copies of all of your passport pages. When applying your passport needs to be valid for minimum 18 months after and still have at least 6 remaining blank pages.
• The lease agreement for the property you will be living in. The agreement should include the name of the property owner, the address, and the amount of rent.
• A letter stating that you will employ Indonesian maid, have accommodation prepared, and will not be working when you are in the country.
• Copy of health and life insurance policies.
• Copy of bank account statement that you have sufficient funds for living in Indonesia (minimum amount is USD 1,500 per month or USD 18,000 per year).
• ID photograph with a red background.
• Sponsor letter from the agency.

Take your time to make sure that you have all the documents required when applying, and after that, send your documents to the appointed agency (or sponsor). After that, your application will go through the Ministry of Tourism, and the sponsor has to have the right to acquire the visa from that ministry. Once your application is approved, you will get a telex visa. To pick up the visa, check the embassy website to know what documents needed to be brought. The most common requirements are to bring the application, telex, passport, sponsor letters, and additional passport photos.

Convert Your Retirement Visa to Temporary Residence Permit (KITAS)
Once you got your visa and are already in Indonesia, you need to change your visa into KITAS. The immigration officer will take your photograph and fingerprints, and after that, you will receivethe following documents:
• A retirement KITAS
• SKPPS & SKTT (certificate of registration of temporary residency)
• STM (Resort police report)
• Police card (SKLD)

The KITAS given will allows you to stay in Indonesia for one year. You can do annual extensions up to the maximum of 5 times. After living in Indonesia for 5 years, you can apply for a permanent stay permit or KITAP.
