Not endorsing tiger mom attitude at all. There’s a balance but this goes to show values drive achievement. Asians, look out, you’re about to lose your model minority status

Whereas, for Chiasoka, certain academic achievements were nothing, but expected. Therefore, they were not worthy to be praised, let alone, noted. So much so that her mother refused to attend her graduation ceremony. She did not perceive her daughter’s academic accomplishment as an exploit, despite being among the top 10 percent of her graduating class. It was, in her mother’s eyes, the bare minimum that was expected from her. “Until I earn a post-graduate degree, I will have to content myself with a family-less graduation ceremony” she confessed.

Comparing Nigerians with Aframs is folly. Comparing an Aframs who had to fight through slavery with a Nigerians who arrived with a special skill visa is not even comparable

@naval you’re a fool and a racist for claiming blacks are  less able than the rest of us to better themselves. Slavery ended 150 years ago. Anyway, why are you an expert in the oppression business? The fact someone like you are able to sit here and be a keyboard race bater speaks for the freedom that we have here. Try doing this in China. Not even in Thailand or the philipines can you get away with this nonsense.

@athena

“Jim Crow” has long been a derogatory slang term for a black man, making it a fitting name for the laws that were in force in the South and some border states from 1877 through the mid-1960s. These laws were in place to maintain racial segregation after the Civil War ended.

 You can't just enslave a race for 400 years and expect kumbaya within one generation. Jim Crow ended 1965, most the grandmothers in the 1965's are still alive today.

@naval All slaves have been free since the end of the civil war in 1869. Segregation is not an excuse. There were plenty of blacks who did quite well during segregation. Stop looking down on blacks as lessor than everyone else and treat them like lessor people who constantly have to be given freebies and treated with kids gloves in order to succeed. That’s racist!
