(CNN)A Salinas, California, police officer was shot and killed Friday night while conducting a traffic stop, local officials said during a Saturday news conference.

The Salinas Police Department identified the slain officer as 30-year-old Jorge David Alvarado, a five-year veteran of the force.
At around 10:45 p.m., Alvarado made a traffic stop that led to the officer-involved shooting, police chief Roberto Filice said during the news conference. He did not provide further details about what happened during the stop.
"The officer stayed in the fight all the way to the end. Ultimately, he paid the price for it, he gave his life for it," the chief said. "But thanks to his actions, we were able to apprehend the suspect and we currently have him in custody."

White and Moak were killed early Saturday.

Warren Strain of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said Sunday that the shooting suspect, 25-year-old Marquis Flowers, was hospitalized after being wounded in the confrontation. Strain said charges are pending against Flowers and that investigation is ongoing. He did not provide an update on Flowers' medical condition.

Strain had said previously that the officers were called to a house in Brookhaven at about 5 a.m. Saturday for a report of shots fired. Following an exchange of gunfire that left both officers "mortally wounded," the two were pronounced dead at a local hospital, Strain said. He identified the weapon used as a handgun but wouldn't elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

If the government put their resources on neighborhood development instead of over-policing, then opportunities will bring down crimes

@athena There is nothing wrong with police but the powers behind racial profiling and racial injustices.

@naval so? I’m talking about brutality against the police. you already have multiple threads about so called injustice. Wrong topic.

@athena most of the cops that died in 2022 are caused by covid 19

@naval from your data, 58 died by covid 19. (Assuming covid figure is not inflated). total deaths is 124. so 68 officers died by other means. How many of these deaths are committed by criminals? You don't have that data.

Police shot and killed at least 1,055 people nationwide last year

Police fatally shot 1,055 people in 2021, the highest total since The Post began tracking - The Washington Post

I rest my case

@naval you don’t have a case. First off 1055 killed by police out of a population of 329 million represents 0.0003169%. Number two, you need to show the fatalities compared to the numbers of people who get into confrontations with the police. More confrontations, more bad outcomes. Other factors that come into play ie how many lives were saved by taking the one life that put themselves in those situations. That’s what we call critical thinking.

@naval come to think of it the 68 deaths out of 124 from other causes are mostly by criminal conducts.

in 2021, 608 unknowns were murdered 🤔or the police department is whitewashing the blacks murdered to prevent public outcry.

@naval what's your point? white washing killing of blacks? give some examples? then I can do an analysis of the situation and get back to you.

An Arizona police officer is dead after a suspect fatally shot him during a routine traffic stop.

What are the details?

According to a Friday report from the Daily Caller, White Mountain Apache Police Officer Adrian Lopez, 35, was in the process of pulling over a vehicle in Whiteriver when an altercation took place between the officer and the suspect, who was later identified as 25-year-old Kevin Dwight Nashio of Whiteriver.

In a statement, the Navajo County Sheriff's Office said that during the altercation, the officer was fatally shot.

"The suspect took the officer's police vehicle and fled the scene," the statement continued. Responding officers then were said to chase the suspect to "very remote areas of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation to the Hawley Lake area" where officers cornered him and a gunfight ensued.

During the crossfire, a second officer — identified as 29-year-old Sergeant Lonnie Thompson — was shot, and the suspect was fatally wounded. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
