The current culturally accepted scientific paradigm worldwide is usually **Materialism**(like the Big Bang theory etc) where brain = mind, and matter is all that exists or worth the scientific study of...this is known as "The Primacy of Existence". While 'The Primacy of Consciousness' is the opposite turnaround where everything begins with the mind and consciousness:
