A stranger randomly slugged an Asian woman in a shocking caught-on-video attack in Chelsea that is being investigated as a possible hate crime, cops said.

The 68-year-old victim was crossing the street at the intersection of Ninth Avenue and West 19th Street around 8:50 a.m. April 24 when the male attacker suddenly comes up behind her, footage released early Monday shows.

The woman then runs back in the other direction, holding her arm out in an attempt to keep the assailant away, before the brute chases her and punches her in the torso — knocking her to the ground in the middle of the street, the clip shows.

It was reported to police that on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 0850 hours, in the vicinity of 9th Avenue and West 19th Street, the victim, a 68-year-old Asian female, was crossing the street when she was approached by an unidentified male who punched her in her torso and caused her to fall to the ground. A Chinese food delivery worker described by loved ones as a hardworking father was fatally shot in Queens on Saturday night.

Zhiwen Yan, 45, was making a delivery near 108th St. and 67th Dr. in the neighborhood of Forest Hills at around 9:30 p.m. when a man began firing shots in his direction, according to police.

A bullet hit Yan’s chest, and he fell off his scooter. Medics brought him to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooter reportedly fled in a light gray or tan sedan toward Queens Blvd. As per the New York Post, police are investigating a 50-year-old customer who has several ongoing disputes with staff members at Great Wall restaurant, where Yan worked.

The customer has been accused of threatening the employees with a gun in January and vandalizing their vehicles twice. An employee claimed that after one of the incidents, the customer fled in an older model of a Lexus RX3 SUV, which was the same vehicle present during Saturday’s shooting.

Yan, who arrived in the U.S. in 2001, leaves a wife and three children — aged 2, 12 and 14 — behind. He juggled three jobs before his death.

“My husband wakes up every day and just works,” said Kunying Zhao, who also goes by Eva, told the New York Daily News.

Yan’s nephew, Michael, called the shooting a “brutal murder.”

“It’s unacceptable that this happened. This is a very peaceful community. This never happened, this kind of issue,” Michael told the New York Post.

A small memorial was held for Yan at Great Wall on Sunday. Residents of Forest Hill called Yan a “fixture” of the neighborhood.

“Anytime you'd pass he'd say ‘hello my friend,’” Philip Jacoby told Spectrum News NY1. “Snow, rain, hurricane he was out delivering. He was the nicest guy. Hardest-working guy in the neighborhood.”

“He was the heart of Forest Hills to so many,” Matthew Murray told FOX 5 NY. “He was the hardest worker. He was always out on Queens Boulevard, he would always say hi to you. He would say ‘Hi my friend’ to you.”

Yan’s death came less than a day after Mayor Eric Adams met with top police officials to discuss solutions to address violent incidents in the city.

Zhao set up GoFundMe page for her husband on Sunday. So far, it has raised over $45,000.

No arrests have been made as of this writing.

A hard-working Chinese food delivery man was shot and killed while on the clock in Queens Saturday night — and now cops are probing whether the gunman is a disgruntled customer who had “multiple disputes” with the restaurant over his orders, sources told The Post.

Zhiwen Yan, 45, was on his scooter and making a delivery near 108th Street and 67th Drive in Forest Hills around 9:30 p.m. when he was blasted once in the chest and mortally wounded, police said on Sunday.

Sources said cops are now eying a 50-year-old customer who has an ongoing beef with staff at Great Wall on Queens Boulevard, allegedly menacing them with a gun in January and twice vandalizing their vehicles.

One witness told police the angry customer drove off from the Forest Hills restaurant in an older model Lexus RX3 SUV after one encounter — the same type of vehicle spotted fleeing the scene of Saturday’s shooting, the sources said.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Yan leaves behind a wife and three kids, ages 2, 12 and 14.

“This was a father of three children working three jobs — all food delivery,” the dead man’s nephew, who identified himself as Michael, said outside the family’s home in Middle Village on Sunday.

“He came here in 2001,” he said. “He has been in this country over 20 years. I would like to know why this murder took place. I would like to find out the truth and get justice. This was a brutal murder.”

“It’s unacceptable that this happened,” Michael added. “This is a very peaceful community. This never happened, this kind of issue.”

Yan’s grief-stricken widow, Eva Zhao, burst into tears after coming out from the home — the couple’s young daughter in the doorway behind her.

Zhiwen Yan, 45, was on his scooter when he was shot in the chest Saturday night.

Yan, of Queens, was found unconscious at the scene after police responded to a 911 call, and rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, according to police.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to a GoFundMe page posted on Sunday for Yan’s three children, the shooting was “a random act of road rage” while he was on a delivery run for Chinese restaurant Great Wall.

Sooi Chung, Zhiwen’s co-worker at Great Wall, said that an irate customer had been harassing employees for months.

“He slashed the boss’s tires one time. And one night, in December or January, he pulled a gun on my boss,” Chung said. “We reported him to the police, and he stopped bothering us.”

A memorial began to grow outside the restaurant, which was closed Sunday, with mourners leaving flowers outside.

“He still had the order with him,” Sooi Chung, 70, who worked with Yan at the restaurant, told The Post. “When he got shot, the police found the bag with the food with our menu inside.”

“We are very sad,” Chung said. “Everybody liked him. We just don’t know what happened to him. He died young.”

According to police, Yan may have been hit by a stray bullet.
Witnesses told cops a Lexus was seen fleeing the scene, sources said.

“He was super nice and worked so hard,” former neighbor Yang Pan, 20, said of the slain man on Sunday. “I would never see him not working.

“When I talked to him he was always nice and he laughed,” said Pan, who lived in the same Elmhurst building as Yan until his family moved.

“I felt like I had a heart attack when I heard he died. I can’t believe this,” she added. “It’s just so sad. I’m heartbroken.”

Outside Yan’s home, Rep. Grace Meng, a Queens Democrat, joined several community activists and called the fatal shooting “unnerving.”

“It’s my district. They are my neighbors,” Meng said. “People are terrified that this could happen in the middle of a relatively safe neighborhood in Queens. And so people are really scared.”

In a statement, City Councilwoman Lynn Schulman denounced the slaying.

“This incident has sent shock waves across our neighborhood, which is considered one of the safest in Queens,” the statement said. “The fact is gun violence is an epidemic in our country and it has touched on every corner.”

Zhiwen Yan is pictured in this undated photo.

Yan migrated from China more than 20 years ago and delivers for the eatery seven days a week, the GoFundMe page said.

The page had raised more than $36,000 by Sunday evening and has a goal of $100,000.

Cops are now scouring the neighborhood for surveillance footage of the shooting.

A 14-year-old girl who police believe was an innocent bystander was shot in the neck when a gunman opened fire on two other teenagers in Queens on Wednesday, cops and law enforcement sources said.

The shooter got out of one of two cars that pulled up alongside a group of people walking near 64-50 188 Street in Fresh Meadows and opened fire on two 18-year-old men at about 4:10 p.m., police and sources said.

The girl was hit in the neck, one of the men was hit in the hip and the other was shot in the leg, sources said. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The girl isn’t believed to have been an intended target, but the shooting is still under investigation, the sources added.

The three victims were among a group of about a dozen people walking on the sidewalk before the shooting, police said.

The 14-year-old was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.

Both men, who had initially fled to other locations after being shot, were taken to New York Presbyterian Queens, police said. They were also listed in stable condition.

The vehicles fled the scene and no arrests were immediately made.

Neighbor Ron, 53, said he heard arguing before the gunshots rang out.

“I hear the yelling and the screaming: ‘Yo, I’m right here! I’m right here!’” he said.

“Then pop, pop, pop, pop.” The victim was left “on her back, not moving,” he added.

Antoine was driving by as he saw two groups of teenagers “arguing back and forth.”

“I just saw the crowd and then the gunshots,” he said. “One of them had a BMW, the BMW was double parked while they were going at it and after that the BMW left the scene – I did not see but I heard the sound of the engine.”

Vincent Hurtado, who lives a block away from the shooting, said he saw the terrified girl after the shooting. He had heard the shots ring out and told his kids to come inside, he told The Post.

“I saw a lady outside a car and she was crying hysterical and she said, ‘Oh my God, a girl got shot,’” Hurtado, 47, said.

“I saw her on the floor, she couldn’t move, she was in shock … her eyes were blinking, scared to death, I was on the phone looking at the girl calling 911. I told one of her friends to keep talking to her until the ambulance came.”

The girl was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

But the girl wasn’t talking and looked as if she was “about to pass out,” he added.

“This is the worst. I’ve seen shootings out here in New York but this takes the cake,” Hurtado said. “This has never happened here. I’ve been living here almost 40 years.”

Stop China hate in the Filipinos. Those racist Filipinos Shock

https://www.rappler.com/moveph/250953-opinion-chinese-filipino-teen-racism-coronavirus/

never really felt that being Chinese-Filipino was any different from being a pure-blooded Filipino. I call the Philippines my motherland; I respect, more than any other, the Philippine flag; I memorize both the Panatang Makabayanand national anthem by heart; I speak Filipino as well as any other fellow Juan; I love eating sinigang and lechon; and I have always embraced our polluted, traffic-choked, sweltering Metro Manila streets as home.

But recently, I found this notion crumbling whenever I would see fellow Filipinos, whom I have always considered family, treating each and every Chinese national (including those originally from the Philippines) with disgust and prejudice because of the sudden mass outbreak of the novel coronavirus (nCoV). Indeed, the virus originated from the city of Wuhan in China, but China being ground zero for the virus has resulted in numerous adverse effects for all of its citizens, the most rampant of which is (extreme) xenophobia.

'Paramedics worked on a woman found with critical injuries,' a police spokesperson said on Sunday.

A shocked resident said she knew the man in custody to be 'nice and normal' and described the family as 'quiet'.

Neighbours previously recalled hearing a woman scream, with one saying they had mistaken the commotion for animals screeching in the night.

Daniel Woodrow who lives nearby said he was shocked to stumble across the police presence on the normally quiet street during his morning walk.

'I got woken up last night, I got out of bed — I actually thought it might’ve been a cat trying to kill a possum, there was a human element to it,' he said.
