It's gonna be all about the delicious spicy Indo food!!

Indonesia has about 6.000 populated islands (total islands: 17.500+). So... the cuisine varies greatly by region, you can say that the Indonesian cuisine is very, very diverse.

First off, just like the EB Indo forum slogan and one of president Obamas favourite Indo food:
BAKSO
[img] [/img]
Bakso is a Chinese influenced meatball, usually made out of beef. There are also fish and chicken variations. You can steam, boil or deep fry them and it's usually eaten with (noodle) soups. There are many kinds of bakso, my personal favourite is bakso Malang (see picture)

SATE
[IMG] [/IMG]
Wether it's skewered with lemon grass or bamboo, the smokey flavours from the satay are irresistible! It takes more time to skewer the meat than eating the meat! Satay varies throughout the whole archipelago. We have chicken, beef, pork, turtle, snake, rabbit, mice, you-name-it kind of satays! Each meat has its own sauce. (from peanut sauce to spicy soy sauce)

BABI GULING
[img] [/img]
Backpackers most wanted thanks to Anthony Bourdain (the best pig he ever had)! Delicious suckling pig slowely roasted for hours, caramalized due to the coconut water and it makes the skin oh so crispy! kriiuuuuuk

No I have not! I usually get second thoughts when I want to buy them lol.
I did try turtle, it's pretty damn good I say! My fav is still goat meat satay.
Chicken intestine satay is good with chicken congee!

AYAM RICA-RICA

Chicken from northern Celebes that mainly consists out of chilli peppers and some other herbs.
The kaffir lime leaves and lime juice makes it taste fresh, but the peppers will truly set your tongue on fire!
Sate, Babi Guling and Ayam rica-rica look very much like Filipino food.
I really see the Phils, Malay & Indo as brothers.. remove the religion and we're still very diverse yet the same!! 3 bro's adopted by 3 different parents 😛 (UK, NL, ES)
They all look delicious. Wish I had known all the name of these dishes earlier.
I have done backpacking to Indonesia zillion years ago
Without knowing the names, I just had to eat Nasi Goreng every day. lol
Oh noes! you should've asked around! Or see what the locals were eating and just eat with them haha.
And really, nasi goreng goreng every day? :O that's just simply fried rice. (I don't even get it why it's our national food while it's clearly a Chinese invention)
Visit Indo again.. there are still 17.000 islands left that you haven't explored yet! -cheers

SAMBAL TALIWANG
[img] [/img]
A chilli salsa from the island Lombok (means: chilli, named after all the vulcanoes that are in the small island) The taliwang pepper is used here, the spiciness level of this pepper is almost as identical as the ghost pepper. (once the hottest pepper in the world)
Indonesians can't imagine eating their food without their sambal. There are many sambal versions throughout Indonesia. (Sambal terasi, sambal petai, sambal ulek, etc)

EMPEK-EMPEK PALEMBANG

Different types of fish cakes in a sweet sour spicy sauce with fresh cucumber and noodles. ...De-li-ci-ous! Eaten at room temperature.

RUJAK

A fruit salad (Usually with pomelo, mango, pineapple, cucumber, carrot and apple) with a sweet, sour & spicy dressing. With youtiao, peanuts and tofu as the finishing touch.
Kinda like the Thai/Lao papaya salad "som tam" but not salty.

KOLAK

Plantain, sweet potatoe, palm seeds, pumpkin in a sweet coconut based sauce. You can eat it either warm or cold.

LUMPIA

Hey Doraemon.. doesn't this look a bit like Vietnamese food?
Chinese influenced springrolls, deepfried. There are many variations, my favourite is lumpia Semarang (see picture) it contains bamboo and it as a thick rich filling.
We also have lumpia basah, with a pancake for the skin.

I've tried the Bakso Tenis soup while in Indonesia. It's quite an experience. The meatball is the size of a tennis ball.

Another one that I like is oxtail soup.
