Japan has a large number of large insects. Children during summer time love to collect them and keep them in miniature cages. Here are some of the insect found in Japan.
Semi - Japanese Cicada
During the summer, these insects can be heard all day long. They look like huge flies!
Kabuto Mushi - rhinoceros beetle
One of the favorites for children. This an the stag beetle are often fought.
Kuwagata Mushi - Stag Beetle
As ferocious as these beetles look, they are harmless and drink honey dew.
Suzume Bachi - Japanese Giant Hornet
These wasps are dangerous, they have killed people. Yet, some like to eat them.
Geji - household centipedes
I've never seen one but a book said they are fairly common. They are apparently 'good' bugs eating cockroaches and other household pests.
Ashi Daka Gumo - High Leg Spider
Big scary but a friend of the house. Another cockroach killer.
