2 Georgia deputies shot outside Atlanta; suspect dead in shootout | Fox News
A manhunt in Georgia on Wednesday for an "armed and dangerous" suspect accused of shooting and wounding two DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies ended with the suspect's death in a shootout with police, according to a report.
Suspect Edward Allen Gatling, 38, was killed in a wooded area in Lithonia, not far from the scene where authorities say the shootings of the deputies occurred, FOX 5 of Atlanta reported. Gatling was being sought on an arrest warrant for charges of aggravated assault with the intent to murder.
No law enforcement officers were wounded during final confrontation with the suspect, the station reported.
The earlier gunfire that unfolded at a residence in Lithonia was the second shooting directed at law enforcement in the greater Atlanta area in less than 24 hours. On Tuesday night, Henry Laxson, an officer with the Clayton County Police Department, was killed in the line of duty in an incident that authorities said left a total of four people dead, including the suspect.
