the leaders work much better together. maybe parts of the population want to be like the west it doesn't mean they actually are, such as Japan.

Each nation has its own interest to protect. Europeans and Americans are across the oceans, So that's why ASEAN leaders have to work with northeast Asia.

these charts are drawn by westerners to subvert others. you can draw overlapping lines almost anywhere in the world. do you know Australia claims most of Antarctica?

SCS is not an economic issue, china is not claiming it for exclusive development. it's a political issue because outsiders are egging you on to challenge china's much older and more solid sovereign claims. SCS is not just sovereignty issue on paper, it's bastion for chinese nuclear submarines, to protect them from US attack. economically china will open it to other countries.

Nobody cares about Antarctica, as long as Australia isn't melting the polar ice caps then nobody cares.

While South China has 1/3 of the global trade route passing through. Millions of oil barrels, minerals, marine resources are at stake for ASEAN nations. on top of that, the capital of all ASEAN nations is only 15 mins away from any Chinese attack on the island bases you guys are building.

if they tried to assert their claims you'll see a lot of people caring. you don't know about Antarctica doesn't mean it's not important.
most of this trade you're told "is at stake", is with china. china doesn't need those bases to attack anyone, it's to protect the submarines.

The ocean is the center of ASEAN, how are the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and supposed to connect with our brothers in Thailand and Vietnam.

What you need to understand is that Asean sees China as a threat. We have our security concerns from foreign outsiders coming in. I am sure you are asking about the United States. They have already left after we asked them to leave but now they are coming back because our formers leaders ask them to return to balance China.

they didn't just lave because you asked. they killed hundreds of thousands of resisters in the early 20th century.
they left when the international climate changed, they wanted to end the european colonial empires to adapt the world for American capitalism, and lessen the appeal of communism.
the US can "balance china" if there is a new colonialist competition. how do they "balance china" when china is the better trader?

Don't forget the Austronesian race has left ''genetic & cultural impact'' across the oceans for thousands of years even before a man knows how to write on paper.

from your racial point of view, you already have huge amount of exclusive oceans, enough to make Japanese very conflicted.
South China Sea is a political issue from the 20th century, when Japan surrendered the Spratlies to China.

I never claimed the entire Pacific oceans and Madagascar. what I was saying is our presence in the oceans and others islands goes beyond whatever a Chinese fisherman wrote on a map.

Even the Mexican woman here admits that our presence made it to south america.

it seems you identify with Polynesian explorers. they have huge EEZ's in the middle of the pacific. you don't need to make up something about SCS being heart of ASEAN. half of ASEAN is continental anyway.

the heart of asean economic trade is the Malacca Strait & South China Sea. without access to those checkpoints then our economy will collapse.

it's been proven that Pacific Islanders & Micronesians have our genetics

discovered that only 21% of the Polynesian autosomal gene pool is of Australo-Melanesian origin, with the rest (79%) being of Austronesian origin. Another study by Friedlaender et al.
